It is mandatory for candidates to meet the following eligibility requirements in order to take the PCI examination:
Without a higher education degree:
You must have five years of investigation experience, including at least two years in case management. You should have four years of investigation experience if you already possess an APP.
With a higher education degree:
You should have at least a Master's degree from an accredited college or university and have three years of investigative and management experience, including at least two years of experience in case management.
OR
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education or an international equivalent. They must have at least four years of investigative experience (or three years if they already hold an APP), including at least two years as a case manager.
There are approximately 140 multiple-choice questions on the PCI certification test: 125 are scoreable, and 15 are pretest questions. The test covers three major areas (domains).
PCI exam specifications are based on each domain's tasks, knowledge, and skills. The percentage of total exam questions depends on the relative importance of the domains.
The exam will assess your knowledge and skills in three primary areas of competency that professional investigators have identified as mandatory.
